The origin

Sarah started IVF at 43, consulting doctors everywhere from the UK to India — and came away with a lot of expensive lessons. A clinic described her own eggs as "improbable" and refused to treat her. It was, she later understood, a business decision: clinics protect their published success rates, and patients with lower odds affect those numbers.

The more she spoke to other solo women over 40, the more she recognised how consistent the gaps were — and how avoidable the mistakes. Nine months after that first donor egg recommendation, she conceived naturally with her own egg and a known sperm donor. She was almost 44.

Sarah is a fertility patient advocate and the founder of Solo Fertility 40s, an independent information resource for solo women navigating fertility treatment after 40.

She went through two failed IVF cycles at 43 — one in Spain, one in Greece — and was twice told that donor eggs were her only option. A clinic in Spain refused to treat her using her own eggs, describing her chances as "improbable." Nine months later, she conceived naturally at almost 44.

She now provides impartial guidance to solo women going through the same system — with no clinic affiliations and no financial ties to the fertility industry.
